BCF Welcomes Dr. L. Kent Thomas AIM Scholarship

 

The Bartlesville Community Foundation is proud to announce its newest scholarship to be available for 2021-2022 scholarship awarding year, the Dr. L. Kent Thomas AIM Fund Scholarship.

The Dr. L. Kent Thomas AIM Fund was established by the family and friends of Dr. L. Kent Thomas to honor his legacy as an accomplished engineer, caring father, and passionate community member.

Dr. Thomas was born and raised in Miami, OK and graduated from Miami Public Schools prior to attending NEO Junior College. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering before pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. In 1966, Dr. Thomas began his career at Phillips Petroleum Company where he had the opportunity to make a significant impact on work in reservoir simulation and dual-porosity modeling. His accomplishments have been recognized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Institute of Mining Engineers, National Academy of Engineering and in more than 50 technical papers.

With this scholarship, the Thomas family hopes to honor Kent’s character and professional legacy by helping others pursue an education a STEM field. Students graduating from Bartlesville High School and majoring in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field at a four-year college or university may be eligible to apply beginning January of 2021. Applicants will also be evaluated on their demonstration of community involvement and academic achievement.
