Bartlesville Community Foundation Funds Award $98,500 in Scholarships

The Bartlesville Community Foundation (BCF) administers many scholarships from its pool of funds and provides a simple, streamlined process for donors to offer scholarships to area students. In total, $98,500 in scholarships from 13 various BCF funds have been awarded to area students that will be attending college during the 2017/18 school year.

Scholarship funds can be established by groups or individual donors and targeted to benefit any population segment the donor chooses. BCF ensures these scholarships are secure well into the future by harnessing the power of endowment. Foundation staff is committed to carrying out the donor’s’ wishes as expressed in their scholarship agreement.

This year the BCF was honored to include the Cheryl Schiermeier Scholarship to their collection of scholarship funds. Cheryl and her husband Bob established a $50,000 fund with the Foundation for graduating seniors in Dewey, OK. This scholarship provides up to four years of full tuition for a student attending a university in Oklahoma. As the public librarian in Dewey for more than 20 years, Cheryl is an education advocate. She has seen how reading and education can change lives and wanted to increase educational opportunities for students in her hometown. Since 1960, Schiermeier has persevered as a polio survivor to lead an adventurous and successful life, never letting her condition diminish her passion for helping others.

Another fund, established by the Service League of Bartlesville, awarded $25,000 in scholarships. For more than 50 years, the Service League provided teens with a safe place to gather at the Youth Canteen, awarded scholarships to area students and supported the youth of Washington County. The Service League operated the Bargain Box Annex and held the Kitchens & More Tour to support their charitable work. The Service League continues its legacy of supporting Washington County youth through their Service League Scholarships, providing educational support to Washington County students.
