Over $100,000 in Scholarship Dollars Awarded

One of the many ways the Bartlesville Community Foundation serves the community is by providing a simple and streamlined process for donors to provide scholarships to area students.

This spring, $112,350 in scholarships were awarded from thirteen scholarship and foundation funds managed at the Bartlesville Community Foundation.

One of these funds, established by the former Service League of Bartlesville, awarded $20,000 in scholarships. For more than 50 years, the Service League provided teens with a safe place to gather at the Youth Canteen, awarded scholarships to area students and supported the youth of Washington County. The Service League operated the Bargain Box Annex and held the Kitchens & More Tour to support their charitable work. The Service League continues its legacy of supporting Washington County youth through their Service League Scholarships, providing educational support to Washington County students.

Another fund, the Lou Skurcenski Memorial Scholarship, was established in 2006 by Stephanie Skurcenski in honor of her late husband. Mr. Skurcenski was a college athlete and member of the Phillips 66ers Basketball Team as well as a tireless supporter of youth sports during his lifetime. After a 12-year battle with cancer, Lou’s life was cut far too short. The Lou Skurcenski Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded two scholarships this year to college-bound seniors and student athletes who embody the qualities of a natural leader—integrity, good sportsmanship and a positive attitude—which made Lou a beloved part of many lives.

Scholarship funds can be established by groups or individual donors and targeted to benefit any population segment the donor chooses. BCF ensures these scholarships are secure well into the future by harnessing the power of endowment. The Foundation carries out the donors’ original intent as stated in their fund agreement.
