Melvin Shoesmith Scholarship

Melvin Shoesmith established this scholarship for graduating students of Copan High School with a financial need related to attending college or technical school. The scholarship is intended for students whose families do not have the financial resources to send the students to college or technical school. Although financial need is the emphasis, the student’s grade point average will also be considered during the evaluation process.

Award Details: 

The scholarship amount is $1,000. The recipient’s designated college or technical school will be paid $500 each semester for the first year of enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Copan High School graduating senior
  • Unweighted high school GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Planning to attend college or technical school
  • Planning to major in a non-arts field
  • Well-written essay, describing your immediate family’s financial resources and your plans for financing your higher education

Required Addendums: 

  • Two letters of recommendation: one letter from a high school counselor, and one from any unrelated community member, instructor, mentor, pastor, etc. A portion of each letter should address the financial need of the student.
  • First page(s) of FAFSA Submission Summary, up to and including the Student Aid Index number. Refer to FAQs for more information.
  • Official Copan High School transcript

Transcripts may also be mailed by the counselor/administrator or e-transcript service to the Bartlesville Community Foundation office at 208 E. 4th St, Bartlesville, OK 74003. Transcripts should NOT be prepared or printed by the applicant.

A portion of each letter should address the financial need of the student. Letters must be emailed to scholarship@bartlesvillecf.org by the individuals making the recommendation.

If you do not provide the names of the individuals writing your letters, we may not be able to pair them with your application properly.
